About

It was at a young age that Tahir Jetter decided that he wanted to do something cool with his life and at the age of 16 that he’d determine that filmmaking would be the cool thing for him.

From there, Tahir would embark on a journey of dedicated nerd-dom and scholarship, watching as many films as he could, attempting small sketches with a few nerdy friends and studying the career paths of those whose work he admired, all in the hopes of moving toward becoming a working film director.

After a brief stint at as an English major at the University of Maryland-College Park, Tahir decided to make a complete foray into filmmaking by applying to the prestigious film production program at New York University.

It was there that Tahir would hit the ground running, working on countless productions in various roles (assistant director, sound recordist, editor, production assistant, etc.) all in the hopes of learning as much as possible about the production process.  His efforts would take him everywhere from student films to music videos, to rural South Africa, for work on a promotional for a humanitarian organization to a short stint on the Columbia Pictures feature, The Other Guys starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell.

Intent on completely shifting his focus toward producing/directing, Tahir managed to write, direct and produce “Close.,” a short romantic drama, with the help of a few friends from NYU.  The film would go on to premiere at the 2010 Urbanworld Film Festival and will be screening at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, in Park City Utah, among others.

Tahir is currently in the process of developing several other short and feature-length films which he hopes to release over the course of the next several years.

With much of his work to date being largely autobiographical, many of the projects that Tahir is developing have been greatly informed by his awkward transition to New York City from small-town Prince George’s County, Maryland, the struggles of being a college graduate at the height of the Great Recession and the sometimes troublesome conventions of modern courtship, especially in New York City.

Tahir currently resides in Brooklyn, NY, where he has also been making a living as a personal fitness trainer.

    Tahir,

Checked out your site. Cool deal, man. It’s cool to see young people striving for their dreams. I’m currently on a similar path. I recently moved to Atlanta and am currently working on my first comedy spec. In the meantime, I shoot video in hopes of increasing my exposure to the wood of holly.

I wish you the best, dude and I’ll definitely keep tabs on your progress. Hope you do the same.

    See you at the top.
    BJ

    Hey Cuz!
We recently met at a very tragic event. I didn’t know at the time that we shared the same DNA, but I was very impressed by your “Take Charge” demeanor at this very stressful time. You handled yourself with such dignity and style. Now, after reading your “bio”, I am even more amazed. As you already know creativity runs deep in our geneology. Carry on!!
